“Irshad and his team installed potlights throughout our main floor, hooked up our new appliances and added under-cabinet lighting in the kitchen. Clean, precise work and the ceiling patch lines are invisible. Everything was left spotless at the end of each day.”
Control4 Installation by Electricians — the Difference
A whole-home automation system touches almost every circuit and low-voltage pathway in your house: lighting loads, motorized shades, HVAC control, security, gate and garage access, audio zones and surveillance. Doing that properly means load calculations, dedicated circuits for rack equipment, clean low-voltage separation from line-voltage wiring, surge protection, and a panel with real headroom. Those are electrical skills. Scenes and touchscreens matter, but they sit on top of infrastructure — and infrastructure is our trade.
When an AV-only installer hits an electrical issue mid-project — a panel at capacity, a circuit that needs relocating, lighting that requires neutral wires at every switch — the project stalls or gets subcontracted. Because we hold the electrical licence ourselves, the entire job stays under one accountable roof: one quote, one timeline, one warranty, one phone number.
What a Control4 System Controls
Whole-Home Lighting
Replace banks of switches with elegant keypads, then control every light in the house from wall panels, phones or voice. We design lighting scenes with you — "Entertain," "Movie Night," "Away," "Good Morning" — and program them so the whole family actually uses them. Our smart lighting and Lutron expertise integrates directly with Control4 for the best dimming performance in the industry.
HVAC & Climate
Control4 brings furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps and radiant systems onto one schedule and one app. Set back the temperature when the house arms "Away," warm the floors before the 6 a.m. alarm, and let occupancy logic do the rest. Properly integrated climate control is one of the most energy-saving features of a smart home.
Security, Locks & Access
Door locks, garage doors, gates, alarm systems and surveillance cameras all live inside the Control4 interface. See who's at the door from any touchscreen, unlock for the contractor remotely, and have the house simulate occupancy while you're in Oakville for the weekend — or overseas.
Audio / Video & Entertainment
Whole-home audio with in-ceiling speakers, home theatre control, video distribution and streaming sources unified into one remote or app. If your project includes a media room or dedicated theatre, our home theatre pre-wiring handles speakers, screen and rack infrastructure — and if it's part of a basement finishing project, we rough everything in at the framing stage, the cheapest and cleanest time to do it.
Remote Access & Monitoring
Everything is accessible from the Control4 app anywhere in the world. You can check that the stove-side lights are off, confirm the garage closed, adjust the thermostat before landing at Pearson — and receive alerts if anything's amiss. We configure remote access and hand you a system that's tested before we call it done.
Control4 vs. DIY: Alexa, Google & Ring
DIY ecosystems — Alexa, Google Home, Ring, Wyze — are fine for a smart speaker and a doorbell. But they share three weaknesses that matter in a real home:
- Fragmentation: a dozen apps, a dozen accounts, and devices that stop talking to each other after a firmware update.
- Cloud dependence: most DIY devices stop working properly (or at all) when the internet or the vendor's servers hiccup. Control4 runs locally, on your network, in your home.
- No electrical backbone: smart plugs and Wi-Fi bulbs layer on top of whatever wiring exists. A professional system fixes the wiring itself — dedicated circuits, neutral wires at switches, clean panel capacity — then builds automation on solid ground.
If you've already invested in Alexa or Google devices, don't worry: Control4 integrates with them. You keep voice control, and gain a system that actually controls your whole home reliably.
Our Process: Design → Rough-In → Programming
Design. Every project starts with a consultation at your home — in Brampton, Vaughan, Toronto or wherever you are in the GTA. We walk the house with you, talk about how you actually live, and produce a system design: controller locations, keypad placement, shade and lighting loads, rack requirements and network needs.
Rough-in. This is the electrician's stage, and it's where being an electrical contractor pays off. We pull the line-voltage and low-voltage wiring, add dedicated circuits for the equipment rack and shades, bring keypads and touchscreens online, and pre-wire for everything the programming stage will need — before drywall closes. Homes under construction or renovation get the full treatment at framing; existing homes are assessed room by room.
Programming & Handover. Our programmers build your scenes, schedules and integrations, then walk your family through the system until everyone — not just the tech enthusiast — is comfortable. We label everything, document the system, and remain one phone call away for changes, additions and support.
Panel Capacity & Pre-Wiring: Why Electricians Lead
A serious automation system adds real electrical load: rack equipment, shades, keypads, processors, possibly EV charging and a hot tub on the same property. Before we promise a single scene, we calculate your panel's capacity. Homes in older Brampton pockets or with 100-amp services may need a service upgrade to 200 amps to power a modern automated home comfortably — and we quote that honestly upfront rather than discovering it halfway through programming.
We also coordinate with your builder, designer or renovation contractor on new builds and gut renovations through our custom home wiring service, so the automation rough-in happens at the framing stage, exactly when it costs least and looks best.
What's in a Typical Control4 System
Homeowners new to automation often ask what the hardware actually looks like. A typical whole-home system includes:
- A central controller — the system's brain, rack-mounted with dedicated power and network, running all automation logic locally in your home.
- Keypads and touchscreens — in-wall keypads replace switch banks in main rooms; tabletop and in-wall touchscreens give full control and camera views.
- Automation dimmers, switches and fan controllers — installed in place of standard devices, with buttons engraved for your actual scenes.
- Remote and app access — the Control4 app on every family phone, plus voice control through your preferred assistant.
- Network infrastructure — enterprise-grade Wi-Fi and wired backbone, because automation is only as stable as the network underneath it.
We specify equipment after the design consultation, never before — the right controller and keypad count depends on your loads and layout, and a system designed around a catalogue tends to disappoint.
New Builds vs. Retrofit: What's Different
In new construction or a full renovation, we prewire everything: keypad and shade wiring, speaker runs, camera conduit and rack infrastructure, all hidden in the walls before drywall. Retrofit systems lean on wireless keypads, smart dimmers and PoE cameras, with selective wiring only where it earns its keep — media rooms and shades being the two most common exceptions. Roughly speaking, a well-designed retrofit delivers most of the new-build experience; the remainder — in-wall speakers and hardwired shades everywhere — is what walls-open construction buys you. We'll tell you plainly which category your home falls into.
Control4 by Property Type
Detached & Custom Homes
Detached and custom homes are where Control4 shines brightest. In Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Caledon and Brampton's newer estates we design full systems during the architectural phase: a dedicated rack location with proper cooling and its own circuits, keypads planned per room, hardwired shades, in-ceiling audio and camera conduit — all roughed in while the walls are open. The result is a system with no visible wires and no compromises, controlled from keypads engraved for your actual routines.
Condos & Townhomes
Condos and townhomes automate beautifully within tighter limits. You typically can't touch the panel or common elements without corporation approval, so we design around it: wireless keypads and dimmers for lighting, smart thermostats, motorized shades, door locks and leak sensors — no-permit, low-impact work that transforms daily living without a single wire in a shared wall. We've automated units from downtown Toronto lofts to Mississauga towers, and we coordinate with your property manager wherever the corporation's rules require notice.
New-Build Pre-Wiring
If you're building new, the framing stage is the cheapest moment your home will ever see a wire. Through our custom home wiring service we rough in speaker, shade, keypad, camera and rack infrastructure before drywall — work that costs a fraction of retrofitting later and disappears entirely into the finished walls. Builders like it because one licensed trade covers the electrical and automation rough-in on a single schedule.
The Design Consultation: Where a Good System Is Won
Every project starts with a free in-home design consultation — usually 60 to 90 minutes, no obligation. We walk the house with you and ask how you actually live: who's home during the day, which lights matter at 6 a.m., where you watch movies, how you entertain, and what should happen when everyone leaves. From that conversation we produce a written system design: controller count and placement, keypad layout, a lighting and shade load schedule, the rack and network plan, and an itemized fixed quote. You leave the meeting knowing exactly what the system does and exactly what it costs — before a single wire is touched.
Dealer-of-Record Takeover: When Your Old Installer Disappears
Control4 systems are programmed through dealer-only software, and every system has a "dealer of record." If your original dealer went out of business, left the industry or simply stopped returning calls, your system can become an orphan — you can't add devices, change programming or update firmware, and features quietly stop working over time. Because we're a licensed electrical contractor with real programming capability, we can take over as your dealer: we assess what you have, reprogram scenes and schedules, modernize aging controllers, and put the system on a local support plan with a phone number that actually answers. We reuse everything that still serves you well and tell you honestly when something is at end of life. Takeover projects typically run $1,500–$5,000 depending on what needs updating — far less than replacing a working system.
Who We Work With
- Custom-home builders in Vaughan, Richmond Hill and Caledon who want a single accountable trade for electrical plus automation.
- Homeowners renovating in Brampton, Mississauga and Toronto who want their lighting, shades and security unified.
- Existing homes adding automation without renovation — wireless keypads and shades make retrofit systems very capable.
